Tita’s back in the kitchen to transform Mama’s favorite blueberries into something —- DELICIOUS —- the classic homemade Blueberry Crumble Pie.

I have been in and out of Pinterest to look for the best blueberry pie recipe mash-ups. Truthfully, I have done several versions of this┬ábefore and I┬ájust can’t seem to find the right recipe for it. It would either be too sweet, too dry, or worst, too watery. Because of this, I was having second thoughts on doing one again and opted to find other dessert alternatives using blueberries.

Well, to make the story short, I still went back to creating this homemade blueberry crumble pie. Why? Because I have all the ingredients. Haha!

CRUST + CRUMBLE

Firstly, I wanted to have a pie crust in my recipe. Blueberries tend to be watery once placed in the oven so I decided to put a crust to at least hold the whole thing together when served. Secondly, I opted for a crumble topping rather than another shortbread crust. I’ve always loved the crumble recipe so even if it was extra work, I still chose to do it.

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Make sure all ingredients are properly combined. Set aside.
Filling
  1. Wash blueberries. I once read before that you can use frozen blueberries without letting it thaw for this recipe (I might try that next time!).
  2. Mix all ingredients for the pie filling in a bowl. Set aside.
Crust
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Combine properly.
  3. Arrange crust on your baking sheet. Make sure to arrange it evenly (not too thick nor too thin) to achieve a tasty and well-cooked crust.
Final Steps
  1. Assemble the blueberry pie. Place the pie filling and top it up with the crumble toppings.
  2. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Use a toothpick or fork to see if the pie is done.
  3. Once done, take it out from the oven and leave for an additional 10-20 minutes.
  4. Serve with vanilla ice cream on top! Enjoy!

I think I finally got the recipe right for my homemade blueberry crumble pie. You know what this means don’t you? Yes, that’s right! I’ll finally be doing this a lot more often now.

Thankfully, Kuya finished his portion without complaints. Well, he technically complains to any new kind of food even before tasting it, so you can say he was a little bit ‘coerced’ to try this. Haha! But perhaps after that first bite, he could have/had a change of heart so he swept his plate clean. *pats shoulder* Good job Tita!

    1. hi francesca! corn starch is a thickening ingredient, in this case for the filling. You can usually find it on baking/flour section. xx
